I haven’t checked out a Darby Smart box in quite a while, so I was happy when they offered to send me January’s box for review.
If you haven’t heard, Darby Smart is a DIY/craft subscription that sends you a new mystery kit — the “To DIY for Box” every month. The kit will contain everything you need to complete a chic DIY project. Past themes/projects have included metal stamped jewelry, ink blot coasters, Valentine treat toppers, wood burned cutting boards, and more.
Disclosure: I received this box for review purposes. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate and/or referral links.

Let’s see what’s in the January 2017 Darby Smart “To DIY For Box”!
Everything was shipped in a white & blue box via first class mail.
A peek inside!
January’s featured project was a brass Himmeli Hanging Wall Planter or Love Wall Art. — You could choose which of the two DIYs you wanted to complete.
According to the card above, Himmeli is a Finnish art form that celebrates life, love, and positivity. Darby Smart chose it to bring good vibes into the new year. A url was provided to access full how-to videos for completing the project, but you can also access them on the free Darby Smart iPhone app as well.
Brass Tubes
A package of nine thin brass tubes were included, would serve as the main component of your himmeli.
Brass Wire
30 yards of brass wire was provided to insert into the tubes to form the shape of the himmeli and hold it together.
Tubing Cutter
A tubing cutter would be used to cut each of the brass tubes to the correct lengths, as indicated in the video.
Air Plant
For those who went with the hanging planter option, an air plant was included to perch inside. I’ve had a few air plants (and still have one survivor left), but never any this big. — It’s freakin’ HUGE! 😀
Okay… Here comes the part where instead of a completed project reveal, I present you with a lame excuse as to why I haven’t gotten around to doing it yet. (Yep, it’s high school all over again.) When the box came in the mail way back in early January, I had every intention of getting it done within a few days… Those few days turned into a few weeks, and here we are halfway into February… What can I say? Life happens. 😉 I’ll get it done eventually and will try to remember to update this post with photos. After all, that little (big!) plant deserves a home!
So aside from my immense procrastination in completing January’s Darby Smart project, I was nonetheless happy with the kit itself. I love the simple design of the plant holder and it’s something I’ll definitely be displaying in my home. 🙂 — Remember, for a limited time you can save $10 on your first box with coupon code “FIRSTBOX” OR try a past box for FREE just by using this link!
