I first reviewed Silly Rhino back in November, when the box had just launched. I absolutely LOVED what I received then, so when they asked if I’d like to review February’s box I excitedly accepted their offer and eagerly awaited delivery.
If you haven’t heard, Silly Rhino is a subscription box for kids (aged 0-4) that provides a curated selection of eco-friendly, high quality toys, gear, and accessories every month. Each box is geared towards your child’s current age and stage of development so that they’ll get the most out of each item. Sometimes they even include a little something special for mom, too!
My girls are currently 18 months old, so we received the 1-2 year old box. Let’s have a look!
First look! Everything is neatly tucked away inside this bright blue tissue paper…
…and sealed with their adorable rhino logo. Awww.
They provide a detailed info card with photos (and variations) of all the items in your box, along with their retail prices.
Hape Little Ship Toy – This is a cute little wooden boat/ship made by Hape. I’m a big fan of Hape toys — all of their products are high quality, child safe, and painted with non-toxic finishes. I love the natural simplicity of wooden toys, so these are always a welcome addition to our toy collection (er, pile). Sadly, I’ve already received this exact boat in another sub box, so I’ll either be trading it or gifting it. When you suffer from have a sub box addiction as I do, this sorta thing is bound to happen. 😉 (Amazon Price: $10.99)
Wobble-A-Round Beads by Manhattan Toy – As soon as I saw this, I KNEW the girls would be all over it. They have a larger, plastic one of these that they tend to fight over… Sure enough, as soon as I took the tag off, the toy was stuck in a game of tug-o-war. (Stay tuned… there’s pictures to prove it!) Unlike our cheap plastic one, this is made with a solid wood base coated with a non-toxic finish. The little beads are wooden as well. It’s pretty small, but the perfect size for their little hands. (Amazon Price: $9.01)
Fighting photos to come… 😉
Kiss My Face Lip Balm in “Sliced Peach” – Mom gift! This lip balm is made with all natural, organic ingredients. It’s got an SPF of 15 and contains no artificial ingredients or yucky chemicals. (Amazon Price: $5.99)
Tell Me a Story Creative Story Cards by Eeboo – I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s a set of laminated cards, each with a different illustration, which you and your child can use to make up your own stories. The set includes 36 different cards, along with instructions and suggestions for use. The package says for “3+”, so I’m not sure why it was included with a 1-2 year old box, but no biggie. I’ll just put it away until they’re ready for it. I’d rather get something too old for them, that we can put away for later, than something too young that they’ll never use. (Amazon Price: $9.95)
Green Sprouts Stacking Cups – These are BPA/PVC-free stacking cups designed to be used in the bath. They have little holes in various designs on the bottom of each cup so that little ones can watch the water drain from them. (The description on Amazon says that it “Encourages dumping…”, which made me chuckle.) (Amazon Price: $5.99)
Earth Friendly Baby Soothing Shampoo & Bodywash – This is a hypoallergenic shampoo/bodywash for baby. It’s made with soothing organic chamomile and contains only plant-based, biodegradable ingredients. (Amazon Price: $15.10)
So there you have it — another great box from Silly Rhino!
I love that they include so many high-quality products at such an affordable monthly price. The total value of all the items (using Amazon prices) comes to $57.03! Silly Rhino is only $35.99/month, or less with 3 or 6 month commitments. Not bad! They’re also offering a discount to new subscribers: If you use the promo code “SILLY10” at checkout, you’ll save 10% on the first month of any length subscription!
Alright… as promised, the “Battle over the Beads”:
It begins…
Ev has the toy and Chloe is NOT happy…
Ev sneaks off to the couch to play alone…
But Chloe quickly swoops in for a steal…
Chloe enjoys the bead-y goodness…
Until Ev creeps in and snatches it back…
Chloe is not pleased.
Once again Ev has control…
Chloe tries to regain it…
…and fails. 🙁
This went on for a good part of the afternoon. Sooo… it looks like we’re gonna need another bead toy… Or a lesson in sharing. (Pfft. Riiight. Another bead toy, it is!)

I got this exact box for my one year old daughter! I loved everything except the cards. I emailed silly rhino and they assure me that she could use them but in reality it just isn’t an option until she is older. It would be a very fustrating game of tug or war at this point. Oh well, still super cute I just hope they stick to the correct age range in the future!

I was told the same thing about the cards. I really don’t think my girls would sit still enough to pay attention to them yet, so I’ll just put ’em away for later. It doesn’t really bother me though… It’ll be nice to have a big stockpile of stuff to go thru later. 🙂

Oh that face! Bless her heart! Get another one quick! LOL I’m such a sucker.. Great box!
