Fuego Box is a hot sauce club that introduces you to a new selection of sauces every month. I reviewed their intro box not too long ago, which you can see here. This is a review of their regular monthly box.
When you subscribe, you’ll receive the best artisanal/small batch hot sauces on the market. Instead of focusing on gimmicky labeling or straight up crazy heat, they instead choose the most dynamic flavors with just the right amount of hotness.
Subscriptions are available monthly and quarterly, with the choice of 1 or 3 bottles per box. Prices start at $12.95/month. When you choose the 3-bottle monthly option, your first box will include 2 sauces and a mini-tasting notebook. Every box after will contain 3 full bottles.
Let’s check out the August 2015 Fuego Box!
The sauces were shipped in a white padded mailer to protect the contents of the bright red Fuego box.
An info card lists all of the sauces, as well as flavor notes and suggestions on how to enjoy them.
Friendly Fire Guava + Habanero – An award-winner for “Best Product of 2014” at the 2015 NYC Hot Sauce Expo, this sauce is handcrafted in Seattle, WA. It’s made with a special blend that includes sweet guava and fresh habanero peppers. It can be enjoyed on wings, wraps, oysters, and more.
Elijah’s Extreme Ghost Pepper Sauce – This is another award-winning sauce that features a blend of both ghost and habanero peppers. It was inspired by a 6 year old boy (Elijah) who wanted to be the youngest person to eat the world’s hottest pepper. I’m a little nervous to try it, but when I work up the courage I think I’ll enjoy(?) it on some vegan “chicken” tenders.
Howler Monkey Amarillo Sauce – This is described as an “everyday sauce” that can be used on almost any dish. It includes both yellow and red scotch bonnet peppers, as well as garlic, onions, and other spices. We used it on vegan tacos and it was hot, but not too hot.
Tabanero Hot Sauce Sample – A sample packet of Tabanero sauce was also included as a bonus.
Fuego Box is obviously a great subscription for anyone who loves trying new, hard to find hot sauces. The presentation is nice and I like that the info card includes suggestions of which types of dishes each sauce will go best with.
