GlobeIn time! January’s theme is “Bathe” and is possibly my favorite box to date.
If you’re not aware, GlobeIn is a monthly subscription box that features handcrafted goods by artisans around the world. Each month features a new theme with products supplied by various artisans.
GlobeIn helps to bring income and exposure to small artists, while introducing you to beautiful pieces of their culture. Many of the products included are eco-friendly, fairly traded, and/or organic. Subscriptions are $35/month (shipping included), or less with multi-month commitments. — You can save 25% on your first month with any 3-month or longer subscription with coupon code “WELCOME“.
In addition to their standard Artisan Box, they also offer a smaller Benefit Basket for just $19.95/month. Every Benefit Basket includes one artisan-made item, along with a handwoven palm leaf basket. (You can see December’s Benefit Basket review here.)
Let’s see what’s inside the January 2016 GlobeIn Artisan box!
As always, the box included a sticker with a quote related to this month’s theme and all of the contents were packed into their signature basket.
A peek inside!
A little info booklet featured full color photos and background information on all of the products included in the box, as well as the artisans who created them.
Hand Towel Izmir, Turkey ($13) – I’m probably in the minority here, but I seriously LOVE getting “home essential” items like towels in subscription boxes. They’re usually things I can use right away and that easily fit into my daily routine. Anywhooo… This particular hand towel was made by artisans in Turkey using traditional practices. The cotton towel features a terry cloth texture on one side and a smoother feel on the other. It measures 19 x 31 inches and I love the pretty blue color!
Alaffia Lemongrass Citrus African Black Soap Togo, Africa ($4.49) – Lemongrass is one of my favorite scents so I was thrilled to see this soap in the box. (I can’t stop sniffing it!) The bar is triple milled and made with certified fair trade ingredients including handcrafted shea butter and West African palm kernel oil. Sales of this soap help to support maternal care and education in Togo, Africa.
Silk Face Scrub Bursa, Turkey ($?) – I didn’t even realize this was an actual product until I saw it listed in the info booklet. Turns out it’s an “antibacterial facial mitt” made from 100% raw cocoon silk. It’s supposed to purify your skin by removing dead skin cells and boosting collagen production.
Pestemal Bath Towel Denizli, Turkey ($25) – Yep, another towel! (Yay!) This one is a much larger bath towel that measures roughly 40 x 67 inches and features tassels around the top and bottom edges. It’s made of 100% cotton and is said to be super absorbent. It also dries faster than a regular towel and folds up to a nice compact size. The purple color I received is gorgeous and I’m looking forward to trying it out soon!
Alaffia Shea & Red Palm Mango Citrus Body Lotion Togo, Africa ($2.99) – I think I might just love the scent of this lotion even more than the lemongrass soap (and that’s saying a lot!). Not only does it smell amazing, it’s also 100% vegan, gluten-free, and paraben free.
GlobeIn Signature Palm Leaf Basket Oaxaca, Mexico ($12) – As always, the box included a handwoven basket made of discarded palm leaves that can take hours to hand-weave. I’m digging the bright purple-y blue color on this one!
Yep, I think this is officially my favorite GlobeIn box to date! I love that they included two Turkish towels (I totally scored with the colors I received!) and the Alaffia products couldn’t smell any more incredible (and they help support amazing programs in Africa to boot). The total value this month was roughly $57, not including the face scrub mitt. Such a great box!!
If you’d like to sign up for the GlobeIn Artisan box, you can save 25% on your first month with any 3-month or longer subscription with coupon code “WELCOME“.
