GlobeIn time! November’s theme is “Bedroom” and is one of my favorite GlobeIn boxes to date.
If you’re not aware, GlobeIn is a monthly subscription box that features handcrafted goods by artisans around the world. Each month features a new theme with products supplied by various artisans.
GlobeIn helps to bring income and exposure to small artists, while introducing you to beautiful pieces of their culture. Many of the products included are eco-friendly, fairly traded, and/or organic. Subscriptions are $35/month (shipping included), or less with multi-month commitments.
In addition to their standard Artisan Box, they also offer a smaller Benefit Basket for just $19.95/month. Every Benefit Basket includes one artisan-made item, along with a handwoven palm leaf basket. (You can see November’s Benefit Basket review here.)
Let’s see what’s inside the November 2015 GlobeIn Artisan box!
As always, the box included a sticker with a quote related to this month’s theme.
A little booklet features full color photos and background information on all of the products included in the box.
Y’Abal Handicrafts Seahorse Pillow Pet Guatemala ($22) – This cute lil’ guy was made by Guatemalan artisans using traditional back-strap weaving methods which are passed down from mother to daughter. A variety of different textiles are used in a range of colors. One side features an olive green color scheme, while the other is more blue/dark green. GlobeIn suggests propping the pillow pet on your bed to give it a dose of whimsey.
Handmade Bud Vase Nepal ($12) – Made using a combination of feldspar and other materials imported from India, this bud vase was created by an expert ceramicist who uses his craft to help fund the schooling of his 7-year-old twin girls. — A cause I can definitely sympathize with! 😉
Handwoven Bowl Mexico ($10) – While quite similar to the palm leaf baskets included in every GlobeIn box, this bowl is much sturdier. It has thicker walls and can serve nicely as a handy “catchall” basket for jewelry, hair clips, keys, or anything else that tends to get tossed on your dresser/nightstand.
Massage Oil Candle Ghana ($5) – A lavender scented candle enriched with organic shea butter, allowing it to also be used as a massage oil. The shea butter is sourced from a drought-stricken region of Ghana, where its production helps provide employment for the women who live there.
GlobeIn Signature Square Basket Mexico ($12) – This month GlobeIn debuted a new basket design! Their old baskets were circular and included a lid, while this new one is a bit larger, square in shape, and lidless. It was designed by indigenous artisan Don Juan Garcia Lopez, who lives in the rural canyonlands of the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Like the previous version, these baskets are still made with woven palm leaves.
This was definitely one of my favorite offerings from GlobeIn! The theme was great and I’ll use every one of the items. My favorite was probably the seahorse pillow pet because I’m a sucker for anything whimsical. All of the items were awesome bedroom-inspired pieces and I’m beyond impressed with the curation of this month’s box!
