Ipsy wants you to prepare for a “fantastic and flawless 2015” — starting with January’s “Fresh Start” Glam Bag. I wasn’t too thrilled with this month’s Birchbox (reviewed here), so I was hoping Ipsy would kinda make up for that… Let’s see!
If you’re new here, Ipsy is a beauty subscription that sends subscribers a monthly “Glam Bag” full of cosmetics and beauty accessories for just $10/month. When you sign up, you take a “beauty quiz” to determine your likes/dislikes, makeup preferences, etc. This helps Ipsy learn which products to send in your Glam Bag. Each bag will contain 4-6 full sized and deluxe sample sized products from top cosmetics brands.
A lot of different variations are sent each month, so you’ll see that other subscribers may have gotten totally different products than you did. Hopefully your beauty quiz answers match you with products that most meet your needs… But honestly, even if you only like one or two of the products, for $10 shipped it’s still a pretty good deal.
Let’s see what’s in January’s Ipsy Bag!
Okay, I gotta say… This is probably the ugliest Ipsy bag I’ve gotten to date. It’s just… ew. The front(?) is blue, the other side is white, and it’s topped off with an orange zipper. Ewww. That said, I do have like 6859 makeup bags lying around, so it’s not a big deal. It’ll make a nice crayon/marker pouch for my girls.
Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow in “Treasure” (~$5.00) – I believe this was the first spoiler released for January and all bags contained this shadow in one of two shades. Pacifica is a brand I’m always happy to see because their products are all natural and 100% vegan. This shadow is infused with coconut for a smooth, velvety finish.
Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow Brush ($10.00) – I can always use more makeup brushes. I only have a couple and tend to use my fingers to apply most of my eye shadows. This brush has 100% synthetic bristles, which as a vegan, I definitely appreciate. Plus, it’s pink. 🙂
BellaPierre Shimmer Powder in “Exite” ($14.99) – This 100% pure mineral powder is hypoallergenic and safe for all skin types. I was hoping to get the darker gray shade (this was one of 3 I could have received), but I guess I can try it as a highlighter with my regular, darker shadows. I’m not too sure I can pull off the shimmery look though… We’ll see.
La Fresh Eco-Beauty Good Day. Day Moisturizer (~$11.00) – Okay, I feel weird about listing the value at $11, but a 1.7 oz tub of this sells for $40 on their site — this sample is .5 oz. So as crazy as it seems for a foil packet to be so pricey, well, it kinda is. That said, I already have a daily moisturizer that works well enough and costs a LOT less, so I’ll stick with that one. Plus, this doesn’t even look like it has any SPF. Pfft.
Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer (~$7.00) – This lip treatment is said to nourish and condition your lips while making them appear fuller. It also promises to diminish the look of fine lines. Okay, works for me.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with January’s Ipsy bag. I’ll definitely use the Pacifica shadow and Elizabeth Mott brush. The other products I’ll at least give a try or two.
All totaled, the value of the items is roughly $48. Definitely a great deal for just $10/month! Every time I think about maybe canceling, I remind myself that even if I only like one or two of the products in each bag, it’s still totally worth the “risk”.
