Ipsy is a beauty subscription that sends subscribers a monthly “Glam Bag” full of cosmetics and beauty accessories for just $10/month. I’ve been a subscriber for about 6 months now (you can see my other reviews here) and am always impressed by the value.
When you sign up, you take a “beauty quiz” to determine your likes/dislikes, makeup preferences, etc. This helps Ipsy learn which products to send in your Glam Bag. Each bag will contain 4-6 full sized and deluxe sample sized products from top cosmetics brands.
Ipsy also offers a nice rewards program that gives you points for reviewing your products and referring friends to join. Points can be redeemed for “bonus items” in your next bag. Awesome!
Ipsy sends a lot of different variations each month, so you’ll see that other subscribers got totally different products than you did. Hopefully your beauty quiz answers match you with products that most meet your needs… But honestly, even if I only get a couple items that “fit” me, I still consider it a good value since many of them are deluxe samples or full sized. You almost always get your money’s worth (and then-some)!
Alright, let’s see what’s in my September Glam Bag!
This month’s theme was “Street Style” and the bag definitely fits the bill. It’s a super soft metallic colored pouch with silver studs along the top. Unlike some of the other vinyl bags they’ve sent, this one has no yucky chemical smell. Yay!
NYX Hot Singles Eye Shadow in “Chandelier” – A FULL SIZE eyeshadow! Yay! This is a great neutral-y color. I’ve been using lighter shades to highlight my eyes lately and I’m thinking this will work great for that. Or not. I still don’t know crapola about makeup. 😉 (Amazon Price: $7.10)
Crown Brush Crease & Shadow Brush – A dual crease and shadow brush… Honestly, I’m not sure why you need a separate brush for each thing. (I truly, truly don’t know crap diddly about makeup.) I usually just use my fingers to apply most things. (Retail Price: $17.50, but on sale for $6.99)
Cailyn Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss in “Love Affair” – When I saw the spoilers, I knew I’d be getting some sort of lip product that I’d never use. This is that product. My lips are just way too small and thin to be able to rock this sort of thing. Believe me, I wish I could. I do appreciate that it’s another FULL SIZE product though! (Retail Price: $19)
Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask – My hair is always a frizzfest, so I’m definitely going to give this conditioning mask a try. It’s fortified with avocado, sweet almond & argan oils to help hydrate and protect dry and/or damaged hair. (Amazon Price: roughly $5 for this 1 ounce size)
Pacifica Natural Waterproof Eye Pencil in “Fringe” – Ipsy must really think I need eyeliner, cos I swear I get a new one every month. While I DO use it daily, I prefer the lazy “no sharpening needed” crayon types. That said, I do like that this is all natural and vegan. (Amazon Price: Roughly $5 for this sample size)
The total of all the items in my September Ipsy bag comes to $53.60! Crazy! Granted, the brush is on sale right now so it’s more like $43.09, but still… Totally worth $10 a month (even if I’m going to trade/sell half the things!).
September 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag Review
The value of my bag this month was crazy high, but since I wasn’t overly wowed by the products, I still rated it a 3 for value. I’m sure not everyone would agree, but different strokes for different folks, right? 😉
