Jade Canopy is a new monthly subscription box that sends a variety of garden-related items right to your door.
Each box will contain a selection of seeds & bulbs (usually organic/heirloom), a project, seasonal to-do lists, words of wisdom, and a bonus item or two. The boxes are designed to be useful for both the novice gardener, as well as the seasoned pro. The mother-daughter team who founded Jade Canopy have a passion for gardening (obviously), but also for animals… That’s why 10% of each month’s profits is donated to an animal-focused charity. Yay!
Subscriptions are $30/month, or less with multi-month commitments. For a limited time, you can save 25% on your first month with coupon code “JADEFRIDAY“.
Let’s see what’s in the November 2015 Jade Canopy box!
The box itself definitely had a garden-y vibe goin’ on… Even more so when I opened it up and little pieces of dried moss scattered all over. 😉 The theme for November was “Bedtime” and focused on end of season gardening tasks and preparing for the coming winter.
A small slip of paper included a run-down of everything in the box.
A guide to cold weather planting and a handy November to-do list were provided to get you started. I never knew you could still plant things so late in the season (especially in the northeast!).
Every box will contain “words of wisdom” relevant to the current month/season.
Seeds of Change Colorful Beet Mix & Ferry Morse Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce – Two packets of organic seeds were included — both of which are on the “cool-loving vegetables/bulbs” list above (meaning you can plant them now!). I love that they include organic versions, when they could easily go the cheaper, conventional route.
Tequila Sunrise Tulips – As with the veggie seeds above, these tulip bulbs can also be planted in November. I like how they included simple, straight-forward planting instructions for gardening newbs like me. 😉
Bird Feeder Kit – This month’s project was a little wooden bird feeder. The kit contains everything you need to assemble it including the nails and an eye screw for hanging. You’ll only need to supply a hammer and some wood glue.
Seeds – Two pretty envelopes contained a starter supply of seeds to fill your completed birdhouse. Cute!
Grandma’s Grime Away Pure Soap – This all natural “gardener’s best friend” soap not only helps remove dirt, but also the odors of onions, garlic, and fish. It has a nice, light scent and I was looking forward to trying it next time I chopped fresh garlic, but the label says that it may contain lard. Wahhh. Oh well, my mom (a REAL gardener — unlike myself) will be happy to try it out.
Rose Candle – A fun bonus item. I believe this is a floating candle(?)… It doesn’t have much of a scent (that I can tell), but it’s pretty.
Jade Canopy seems like a really great box for anyone who enjoys gardening — or who’d like to give it a try — and could use a little inspiration. I like that they include not only items, but also helpful to-do lists and words of wisdom. I’m pretty clueless when it comes to gardening, so I appreciate their simple, straight-forward tips and guides.
Remember, for a limited time you can save 25% on your first month with coupon code “JADEFRIDAY“! 🙂
