Our Little Roots is a subscription box that sends you (or your child) a monthly delivery of everything you need to begin growing your own garden. I’ve reviewed them a couple times and it looks like they’ve made some great changes in recent months!
Each Our Little Roots box will contain a packet of non-GMO seeds, organic soil, stakes, and a biodegradable peat pot. When you sign up, you’ll get to indicate your level of gardening experience, select where your seeds will be planted (patio/balcony, backyard, front yard, windowsill), and the type of sun exposure the location gets. Our Little Roots will then select seeds based on the season of the year and where each would thrive in certain climates. If you live up north where it’s colder, they’ll tailor your selection to seeds that can better withstand harsh conditions.
Subscriptions are $11.95/month, or as low as $8.75/month with an annual plan. (Right now you can save 25% off your first box with coupon code “FIRSTROOT“!)
Let’s see what’s in the February 2016 Our Little Roots box!
The box! I was a fan of their logo before, but they’ve updated it to look even nicer. 🙂
I was happy to see more printed materials this time around. I had mentioned in previous reviews that I wished they’d include more learning materials/activities, so this was nice to see. According to this card, February’s featured veggie was broccoli.
A card featuring clearly explained planting instructions was also provided — also something missing from past boxes.
The Seeds – 100% organic, non-GMO Calabrese broccoli seeds were provided. I’ve never had this variety, so I’d be interested to see how it tastes! (Um, probably like broccoli? 😉 )
Peat Pots & Gardening Stakes – Included were pots to plant the seeds, as well as little stakes to label them.
Organic Soil – They also provide 100% organic soil to start your seeds in the healthiest environment possible.
I love that they included a card with additional information on the featured Calabrese broccoli seeds. — A little background on its history, tips on usage, and recipe ideas. This was the kind of thing that I felt was missing before, so I’m glad they listened to feedback and started including it.
A little logo sticker was also included. 🙂
I LOVE the changes that Our Little Roots has made over the last few months. The inclusion of more printed material/seed info is definitely an improvement. I’d still like to see a little gardening-related activity book/sheet provided, but other than that I think it’s a great subscription box to get kids interested in gardening & growing their own food.
Remember — If you’d like to sign up, you can save 25% off your first box with coupon code “FIRSTROOT“!
