I already reviewed my regular Love With Food Tasting box for May, so now it’s time to check out the gluten-free version!
If you’re not aware, Love With Food is one of the most affordable subscriptions out there. — It’s only $10/month (plus $2 shipping) for their “Tasting” box. (You can actually try your first Tasting box for $6 shipped!) They also have a “deluxe” box for $19.95/month (free shipping), as well as a 100% Gluten Free version (this one!) for $29/month. With every box purchased, Love With Food donates a meal to a person in need. Win, win!
Let’s see what’s in the May 2015 Gluten-Free Love With Food Box!
The big red box!
As with the Tasting box, the theme for May’s Gluten-Free box is “Fiesta! Fiesta!” and includes a selection of “South of the Border” inspired snacks. The info card/booklet reveals everything included in the box, as well as full ingredient lists and nutritional info for each item.
I Heart Keenwah Quinoa Puffs – I’ve never seen the “puff” version of I Heart Keenwah snacks before, so these will be interesting to try. They’re made with quinoa (duh), pea protein, herbs, etc. and make a great alternative to conventional “puffs”. This flavor is also vegan. Woo!
Smooze Coconut & Pink Guava Fruit Ice – The Tasting box also included one of these ice treats, which I enjoyed earlier today. I don’t love it quite as much as the pineapple flavor, but it’s still good. It’s made of 100% natural fruit purees and juices.
Cooksimple Tamale Pie – I’ve heard of tamale pie, but never actually knew what it was. I assumed it would be something with lots of beans and cheese for some reason. I don’t know if there are different versions, but this particular recipe looks fantastic. Black bean chili with corn bread topping? Heck yes!
Hail Merry Vanilla Maple Almonds – These are made with raw almonds and real Madagascar Bourbon vanilla. Yum!
Home Free Mini Lemon Burst Cookies – These were in the Tasting box as well. I love Home Free cookies, but these were surprisingly a little too lemony for me. They use real lemon juice concentrate, as well as lemon extract so they really pack a citrusy punch.
Beanfields Pico de Gallo Bean & Rice Chips – It’s a good thing I LOVE Beanfields, or I’d be really sick of getting them in so many subscription boxes. Pico de Gallo isn’t my favorite flavor, but I’ll still enjoy these.
Montana Mex Sweet Salt Seasoning – I usually don’t like getting seasonings in subscription boxes, but I’ll make an exception for this one. It’s a blend of cane sugar, sea salt, orange peel, cinnamon, and other good stuff that will be perfect for sprinkling on popcorn.
Schar Gluten-Free Penne Pasta – A gluten-free pasta made with corn flour, millet flour, rice flour, and sugar cane syrup.
Vintage Bee Hibiscus Creamed Honey – This is listed on the info card as being vegan, but being that it’s actual honey, it’s technically not. That said, some vegans do consume honey if it’s ethically produced, so… Yeah. This contains just two ingredients: raw honey and hibiscus flowers. You can spread it on toast, crackers, or even desserts for an extra touch of sweetness.
Nogii Nuts About Berries Paleo Bar – This paleo-friendly bar has 2 kinds of nuts, 2 types of seeds, and 5 different fruits. It’s also vegan, and of course gluten-free.
Inka Crops Chile Picante Inka Corn – These were also included in the Tasting box, but in a different flavor. They’re super crunchy roasted corn kernels made with all natural ingredients. I haven’t tried these yet, but I’m hoping they’re not too spicy.
I absolutely LOVED this month’s gluten-free box! To my surprise, ALL of the items were noted as vegan (although techically the honey isn’t). Definitely a big win for me!
