Our Little Roots is a subscription box that sends you (or your child) a monthly delivery of everything you need to begin growing your own garden.
Each box will contain a packet of non-GMO seeds, organic soil, stakes, and a biodegradable peat pot. When you sign up, you’ll get to select the type of seed you want: Fruit, Vegetable, Herb, or Flower. Our Little Roots will then select seeds based on the season of the year and where each would thrive in certain climates. If you live up north where it’s colder, they’ll tailor your selection to seeds that can better withstand harsh conditions.
Subscriptions are $11.95/month, or as low as $7.50/month with an annual plan. (Right now you can save 25% off your first box with coupon code “FIRSTROOT“!)
Let’s see what’s in the December 2015 Our Little Roots box!
Everything was shipped in a small brown box with an Our Little Roots logo on top.
A peek inside!
The Seeds – I received 100% organic, non-GMO spinach seeds this time! I’ve never tried growing anything leafy before (like lettuce), but I’ll give it a try. While it’s easy enough to Google it, I do wish they included planting instructions on the seed packet itself… Or even on a separate card.
Peat Pot – The last time I reviewed Our Little Roots, they included a planting bag for your seeds which didn’t seem very practical (especially if younger kids are involved). I’m happy to see that they switched over to this little peat pot instead. Much better!
Organic Soil – A resealable bag of organic soil was included, along with a few garden stakes to mark/label your growing plants.
Our Little Roots is a great alternative to toy and craft based kid’s subscription boxes. I do wish they included more printed info — especially for kids — maybe a little plant themed activity booklet? However, I’m happy that they replaced the planting bag with a more kid-friendly peat pot. Good move! 🙂
