Our June 2016 My Pretend Place box has arrived!
If you’re not aware, My Pretend Place is a dress-up and “make believe” subscription for both boys and girls. It consists of a selection of items designed to encourage imagination and pretend play geared towards kids aged 3 through 6.
Each My Pretend Place box will feature a different theme and include things such as costumes, books, crafts, activities, and even food items. You have the option to choose from a girl, boy, or gender neutral box — all of which will include a costume and other fun goodies fitting the theme. Some of the past themes have included Chef, Veterinarian, Firefighter, Princess, Fairy, Construction Worker, and more. UPDATE: You now have the choice to “build your own box” and pick the specific theme you’d like, rather than having My Pretend Place choose. Very cool!
Subscriptions are $50 (shipping included) for every 3 months of dress-up fun. Month 1 is when you’ll receive the main box with the role play set & other goodies. Shipments for months 2 and 3 will include additional themed activities, kid-friendly recipes, completion certificates, and more — all included in the subscription and shipped FREE of charge. — For a limited time, you can save 30% on your first month with coupon code “PRETEND“! (That makes it just $35 for your first 3 months of pretend play fun!)
Okay, let’s see what’s inside the June 2016 My Pretend Place Dress Up Box! (Includes Months 1 through 3!)
Month 1:
As always, everything for the first month was shipped in a huge white box with the My Pretend Place logo in the corner.
A peek inside.
The box included a letter to your child from Ranger Twiga, their African safari guide for the next 3 months.
Melissa & Doug Backyard Explorer Role Play Set ($25.47) – The safari-themed box came with this fun “backyard explorer” role play set by Melissa & Doug. It features a 3-pocket vest, safari helmet, adjustable-focus binoculars, bug jar with magnifying lid, and name tag for personalization. My girls have been all about watching “Wild Kratts” lately, so I knew they’d be all over this Kratt Brothers-esque outfit.
Looking for black jaguars in the kitchen. (There IS a dress under that outfit, I swear. Also, the Hello Kitty slippers complement the outfit quite nicely, no? 😉 ) Oh — and the hat does fit her head, she just has a high ponytail that’s pushing it up.
Melissa & Doug Animal Pattern Blocks ($16.99) – I’m always happy to get more Melissa & Doug toys! This set features 5 wooden (double-sided) animal scenes, along with 47 multi-shape pattern blocks. Children can use the shaped blocks/pieces to complete the patterns on each animal-themed puzzle. We have way too many toys with “pieces” strewn around these days, so I’m going to save this for their birthday or Christmas. 😉
We All Went on Safari by Laurie Krebs & Julia Cairns ($6.68) – This beautifully illustrated book takes your child on a journey through the grasslands of Tanzania, where they’ll encounter wild animals and count to ten in English and Swahili!
Some safari-inspired foam stickers, a My Pretend Place magnet, and a plastic handle were included to decorate the shipping box for use as a storage/dress-up trunk.
Month 2:
The packet for Month 2 included another letter from Ranger Twiga, which included some fun facts about various animals of the savanna. It also included two more activities…
A Safari Sounds Activity had your child utilizing their safari outfit from Month 1 and acting out various animal sounds for another player to guess.
A sheet of safari-themed stickers were provided to create a fun scene on the savannah background page shown above.
Month 3:
The final month included a congratulatory letter from Ranger Twiga in which he informed your child that they have been designated a true Safari Guide.
An official Junior Safari Ranger Certificate of Completion was provided (signed by Ranger Twiga himself!), as well as instructions for performing a special safari ceremony to mark the occasion.
A recipe for “Ferocious Feline” lunch was included to serve after the ceremony.
Another great offering from My Pretend Place! This is definitely one of my favorite subscription boxes for children. My girls absolutely love playing dress-up and all things make believe, so this is perfect for them. It’s also great that you not only get the initial box, but also additional activities for the second and third months — all included in the price. Such a good deal! — Even better, if you’d like to sign up for the My Pretend Place, they’re offering new customers 30% off their first box! Just use coupon code “PRETEND” at checkout. This makes it just $35 for 3 months of pretend play fun! 🙂
