I was recently sent a DIY Shampoo Bar Kit for review, so let’s check it out!
Everything was shipped in a medium-sized brown box with the Simply Earth logo on top & the name of the kit on the side.
A peek in the box!
Round Soap Mold (x4)
In order to make all of the shampoo bars at once, the box included four round silicone soap molds. Each mold is 3 inches in diameter and can hold up to 1.5 ounces of product.
SLSA Powder
SLSA (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate) powder is a mild yet potent foaming agent that will help give your shampoo bars a soft, luxurious feel without irritation. It can be used for a variety of skin care products including bath bombs, shower gels, and of course shampoo bars.
SCI Powder
SCI (Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate) powder is similar to SLSA in that it also helps to create a beautiful foam in your DIY body care recipes. It’s derived from coconuts and is biodegradable, making it a great eco-friendly surfactant that’s safe for sensitive skin.
Simply Earth Supreme Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint Essential Oil has a special place in my heart thanks to its ability to deter spiders and other creepy crawlies. 😉 Other benefits include aiding digestion, relaxing muscles, soothing skin irritation, easing seasonal discomfort, soothing headaches, and more.
Simply Earth Rosemary Essential Oil
Rosemary is one of my all-time favorite herbs and I absolutely love its distinctive scent! Common uses for this aromatic oil include strengthening the hair, detoxifying, promoting brain health, evoking calmness, supporting joint health, and more.
Foam Boost
Another product to encourage foam formation, Foam Boost (Cocamidopropyl Betaine) elevates the sensory experience of cleansing with a rich, foamy texture. It’s naturally derived from coconut oil, making it mild and suitable for a variety of DIY skin care products.
Geogard ECT
Geogard ECT is an eco-friendly preservative that is made up of safe, natural ingredients. It’s used to extend the shelf life of your DIY skincare products.
Rose Kaolin Clay
Kaolin clay is a useful ingredient in homemade skincare, as it naturally absorbs excess oils. (There were actually supposed to be two packets in the kit, but thankfully I have leftovers from past boxes to make up the difference.)
Hydrolized Rice Protein
Hydrolized rice protein is used to naturally moisturize and add a lightweight, protective barrier over your hair. It’s also effective for skin and nail care as well.
Soap Wrap Paper & Labels
Four paper wraps, as well as four label stickers were provided to neatly package your completed shampoo bars.
“Rosemary & Mint Shampoo Bars” Recipe Card
The all-important recipe card listed all of the materials needed, along with complete step-by-step instructions (more shown on back, not pictured.)
Okay, time to make some shampoo bars!
The first step was to combine all of the dry ingredients. I started with the kaolin clay and cornstarch, then went to put on a mask for the SLSA & SCI powders. (The instructions recommended wearing a mask, as the powders can irritate your nose/throat when airborne.)
With mask in place, I added the aforementioned powders and carefully folded them into the kaolin clay & corn starch.
In a separate bowl, I added the wet ingredients. — Foam boost, hydrolized rice protein, argan oil, Geogard ECT, and essential oils.
I then added the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients, using my hands to combine until it achieved a soft dough-like consistency. (I set the bowl in the sink while I did this, as it got quite messy.)
Next, I carefully scooped out the mixture into each of the silicone molds and set them in the fridge to set for a couple hours per the instructions.
Once ready, I carefully removed each bar from its mold and placed on a paper towel to dry.
After drying, I wrapped each of the bars in the provided tissue-like paper.
I then slapped on the label stickers and they were ready to go!
Simply Earth’s new “DIY Shampoo Bar Kit” made it a breeze to create my own naturally scented shampoo bars using eco-friendly, non-toxic ingredients. As with all of Simply Earth’s DIY kits, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I’m excited to try these and hope I can get my daughters to as well. They go through a LOT of shampoo! 😉 — If you’d like to purchase your own “DIY Shampoo Bar Kit“, make sure to use coupon code “WENDYROSE10” at checkout to save 10%!
