Everything was shipped in a medium-sized brown box with a label indicating the name of the kit on the side.

A peek in the box!

Home Remedies Hero Guide
The packet above provides easy step-by-step instructions for making a variety of home remedies using the materials from the kit. There are also tips and tricks to help things go smoothly. — To dive deeper into the recipes/kit and get even more guidance, you’ll also have access to the online Hero Course.

The Oils!
The kit contains seven different essential oil blends, each with different healing properties.

Simply Earth Downtime Essential Oil Blend
“Downtime” was designed to help you kickstart the process of becoming relaxed and rejuvenated. It contains a soothing combination of frankincense, marjoram, bergamot, lavender, and ho wood essential oils.
Simply Earth Bumps & Boo-Boos Essential Oil Blend
“Bumps & Boo-Boos” contains an uplifting blend of tea tree, lemon, lavender, and helichrysum essential oils. It was especially designed to help support the healing process of minor scrapes and bruises, while its calming aroma also soothes anxious emotions that come with pain.

Simply Earth Farewell, Scars! Essential Oil Blend
Featuring a citrus/floral aroma, “Farewell, Scars!” is an ideal oil to use during the healing process to help reduce scarring and leave you with healthy, healed skin. It contains a rejuvenating blend of lemon, lavender, rosemary, myrrh, and helichrysum essential oils.
Simply Earth Head Soothing Essential Oil Blend
“Head Soothing” blend contains a powerful combination of ho wood, lavender, and frankincense essential oils. This oil has a fresh, floral scent that’s great for easing tension and stress-related headaches. It’s perfect for blending with coconut oil in a roller ball bottle for topical application.

Simply Earth Relief Essential Oil Blend
“Relief” contains a herbaceous combination of rosemary, copaiba, juniper berry, eucalyptus, and peppermint essential oils. It was especially designed to help soothe and relieve occasional discomfort. Simply Earth recommends using Relief Essential Oil Blend in a bath along with Epsom salts to help boost circulation which will assist your body’s natural healing processes.
Simply Earth Veins Essential Oil Blend
The oddly (yet appropriately) named “Veins” is a great blend for promoting circulation. It helps to increase blood flow to hands and feet that always seem to be cold, while also helping to reduce the appearance of spider veins that are a normal part of aging. It contains a fragrant combination of lemon, cypress, & juniper berry essential oils.

Simply Earth Breath Easy Essential Oil Blend
“Breath Easy” is an earthy blend specifically designed to support respiratory health and help you breath a little easier. It contains a calming combination of lavender 40/42, cypress, eucalyptus, marjoram, peppermint, lemon eucalyptus, and black spruce oils.

Shea Butter
Shea butter — a fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree — is widely used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, salve or lotion. It works as a 100% natural emollient to soften and hydrate the skin.

Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp seed oil is a 100% pure carrier oil that has great skin soothing/healing properties. It’s perfect for making your own salves, balms, body butters, and more.

Bath Salt Soak
The two packages above contain a custom mixture of epsom salt, Pink Himalayan salt, and sea salt. This mineral-rich blend will be the main ingredient for making the Mentholated Bath Salts and Detox Salt Bath recipes in the kit.

Coconut Oil (Solid)
Coconut oil is great for so many DIY skincare or haircare recipes. The versatile ingredient helps to moisturize, nourish, and promote healing of the skin. To use, slowly melt the coconut oil in a double boiler or microwave and add to lip balms, hair masks, lotions, or body butters.

12 Cavity Round Silicone Mold Tray
The 12-cavity tray above can be used to hold the shape of shower steamers, bar soaps, and more. It’s made of silicone, allowing for easy removal and the ability to be reused for additional DIYs.

Camellia Seed Oil
Often used in body/massage oils, camellia seed oil is loaded with antioxidants that help in revitalizing and rejuvenating the skin. When used in these home remedies, it helps to hydrate, replenish the skin, refine mature skin, protect the skin from harm, and improve complexion.

Menthol Crystals
Derived from the peppermint plant, menthol has a natural cooling and soothing effect. These crystals will need to be melted down and blended with a carrier oil in order to utilize them in shower steamers and other recipes.

Paperboard Tubes
The cardboard tubes above were provided as a dispenser for both muscle rub and mentholated chest rub. They can be reused (refilled) multiple times and are also biodegradable!

Natrasorb Bath Powder
Natrasorb Bath Powder is made with modified tapioca starch which allows it to absorb and carry large amounts of carrier oils, emulsifying wax, and essential oils. When it comes in contact with water, it immediately dissolves — releasing the oils and spreading them out in the water. It also keeps bath salts from clumping and improves the hardness of bath bombs.

Aromatherapy Rice Bag
A small fillable pillow (white) and pillowcase (patterned) were provided to make a soothing hot/cold rice bag. Both are made of 100% cotton and should be hand washed when needed.

Gold Capped Roll-On Bottle Set
One of the easiest ways to enjoy the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils is to create a simple roll-on “perfume”. The box above contains six clear roller bottles with pretty gold caps to hold any scent combinations that you choose to create.

Tiny Plastic Funnel
This tiny funnel will be very helpful when it comes time to fill the aforementioned bottles with carrier oil! — A thoughtful inclusion. 🙂

Beeswax
Beeswax has humectant, emollient, and occlusive properties that help nourish your skin. It’s the perfect ingredient for making candles and natural skin care products like healing salves, ointments, balms, and deodorant.

Almond Oil
Often used as a carrier oil, almond oil is lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin. When added to non-liquid recipes, it helps to hold all of the ingredients together and make it more solid/”packable”.

8oz Amber Plastic Jars (5)
The lidded jars above will be used to hold some of the finished creations that require proper storage, like bath salts.

Aluminum Aromatherapy Inhalers (3)
A set of three colored aluminum aromatherapy inhalers were provided for easy aromatherapy on the go. Inside each tube is a cotton pad onto which the oils are placed.

Roll-On Travel Bag
How cute is this little zippered travel bag?! It features narrow pockets specially designed to hold your custom roll-ons and aromatherapy inhalers. Such a fun addition!

Tin Container with Window (4)
Four round metal tins with clear/windowed lids were provided to hold the salves/ointments included in the kit.

Customizable Label Stickers
A sheet of customizable label stickers was provided for applying to your finished products.

Essential Oil Bottle Cap Stickers
The sticker sheet above contains 216 stickers — two for each oil and blend (& a few extra). They were designed to fit on the tops of Simply Earth 5mL and 15mL bottles.

Simply Earth Bottle Opener Tool
This handy little tool was designed to make it easier to open/remove the caps of your essential oil (and storage) bottles. To use, just wedge the U-shaped space under the bottle cap and gently leverage the cap upwards. To reseal, position the correct size hole over the bottle cap and gently apply downward pressure. (I’ve used it and can confirm that it makes removal SO much easier!)
Alright, here are the recipes that I’ve made so far!

Detox Salt Bath
Materials required: Carrier oil (I used the almond oil), essential oil of your choice, Natrasorb bath powder, bath salt blend, 8 oz jars, and baking soda from home.

The first step was to mix the carrier (almond) oil and essential oils together in a small bowl.

To that mixture I added the Natrasorb powder and stirred until it reached a powdery consistency.

Next came the baking soda…

…and the salt blend.

The end result was then scooped into three 8-ounce jars.

Once filled, the lids were replaced and my customized labels were affixed. 🙂

Roll-On
Materials required: 10 mL glass roll-on bottle, carrier oil, essential oil.

After removing the inner roller cap on the bottle — using the handy opener tool of course, I added the specified amount of essential oils.

The rest of the bottle was then filled with almond oil and the roller cap was replaced.

Using the provided stickers, I labeled the bottle with my chosen essential oil.

Now my roll-on was ready to use! — Again, there were materials in the kit to make six different roll-ons.

Ointment
Materials required: Shea butter, beeswax, carrier oil (I used almond), essential oil, and a 2 oz tin.

To begin, I needed to melt together the shea butter and beeswax. I did this by microwaving the bowl in 30-second increments until it was fully liquified.

Next, I added the almond oil and my choice of essential oil — the Bumps & Boo-Boos blend.

Once stirred together, the mixture was carefully spooned into the waiting tin and placed in the fridge to cool. (Those “chunks” were just hardened shea butter/beeswax remnants. They cool fast!)

Above is the finished product after cooling for 30-60 minutes.

The lid was replaced, a label was adhered, and my ointment was ready to use.

Mentholated Shower Steamers
Materials required: Coconut oil (solid), essential oil of your choice, menthol crystals, Natrasorb, carrier oil of choice, soap mold, and baking soda from home.

I started by stirring together the baking soda, Natrasorb, and menthol crystals in a large bowl.

In a smaller bowl, I placed the coconut oil and warmed it until fully melted.

To that bowl, I added my choice of essential oil — the Relief blend.

The liquid mixture was then poured into the larger bowl with the dry ingredients.

Using a fork, I combined everything together until I was able to pack it in my hand like a snowball. Carrier oil was added in small increments until the right consistency was achieved.

I then carefully scooped the mixture into each of the 12 molds in the provided tray.

To speed up the setting process, I placed the tray in the fridge for a few hours.

After allowing to harden, I popped each steamer out of the mold. They were a bit crumbly, but still held their shape enough to remove them all in one piece.

I then placed them on a sheet of wax paper to allow them to set/dry a little longer. Once they seemed “done”, I put them all in a ziplock bag for future use. — These will be great to toss in the shower as soon as I feel an inevitable cold coming on!

Aromatherapy Inhaler
Materials required: Aluminum aromatherapy inhaler and your choice of essential oil(s).

Another super easy “recipe”, this one simply required me to remove the cotton pad from the inhaler, place a few drops of essential oil on it…

…and place it back into the inner glass tube.

The outer tube (the glass tube is inside) has holes at the top to allow the fragrance to be released. To use, simply place the opened inhaler near your nose and breathe deeply to enjoy the aromatherapy benefits of your chosen oil.

Again, the kit included three of these tubes, along with extra reusable cotton pads for enjoying your oils on the go!

Aromatherapy Rice Bag
Materials required: Aromatherapy pillow, your choice of essential oil, as well as rice & a cotton ball from home.

Using whatever rice you have on hand, fill the white pillow liner until it’s about 3/4 full and seal closed with the zipper.

Once filled, simply slide the pillow into the printed “case” and heat in the microwave for about one minute. To use with essential oils, place a few drops of oil onto a cotton ball and tuck inside of the warmed rice bag. (If you microwave the bag with the oils already added, they will evaporate. That’s why you add it separately afterward. It also makes it easier to swap out different scents, just by changing the cotton ball.) The bag can also be placed in the freezer to use for cooling comfort.

Menthol Chest Rub
Materials required: Shea butter, beeswax, menthol crystals, almond oil, essential oil, Natrasorb, and tin or paperboard tube.

The first step was to melt together the shea butter, beeswax, and menthol crystals (shown in the blue bowl above). In a separate bowl, I mixed together the almond oil and Natrasorb until no clumps were left.

I then mixed both bowls together and carefully poured the mixture into one of the round tins.

The tin was then left on the counter for a few hours to cool/set.

Once fully cooled/hardened, I replaced the lid and slapped on the customized label sticker. — I’ve made a similar chest rub with a recipe from a past Simply Earth box and it was great having a natural alternative to the store bought stuff (especially for my kids!).
Simply Earth’s new “Home Remedies Hero Kit” is jam-packed with essential oils, natural ingredients, and tools to help you make an awesome collection of eco-friendly home remedies. I was very impressed with all of the supplies provided, as well as the generous amounts of each ingredient. As with all of Simply Earth’s DIY kits, the instructions in the booklet were clear and easy to follow. I’m looking forward to completing the remaining recipes, likely with my daughters’ help.
