The Music Box is a subscription box that sends CD’s and other music-related items to your door every month.
Each box helps to promote new artists and bands by sending their work to a larger audience who may not have otherwise gotten a chance to hear them. Depending on the plan you select, you’ll receive 2 to 4 CD’s, as well as other music-related swag such as stickers, wristbands, downloads, autographs, etc. When you sign up, you can choose your favorite genre from a list that includes rock, indie, country, and more.
Subscriptions are $5/month for “The Envelope” (one compilation CD), $12/month for “The Box” (3 CD’s and swag), and $15 for “The Bundle” (includes both the box and the compilation CD).
Let’s see what’s in my August 2015 The Music Box!
Everything was shipped in a small white box with The Music Box printed on the side.
A peek inside!
Late Cambrian “Golden Time” – This was definitely my favorite CD of the three. I’m very picky about music, so I was honestly surprised to receive something I actually liked. Late Cambrian is an indie/pop rock band from Brooklyn, NY and I can’t stop listening to this song.
Shifting Tracks “Patchwork” – I’m kind of undecided about this one. It reminds me of something I’d hear in a Starbucks and think “Oh, this is kinda cool”, but then I’d try to listen to it in the car with my usual playlist and be like “Nahhh”. I’m sure that makes no sense, but yeah. Very soulful stuff from a singer-songwriter hailing from Mobile, Alabama.
Five Times August “Life as a Song” – Is it just me, or does this guy look like a younger version of Nicolas Cage? Yeah, just me. While I’m not really into his music (comparable to singer-songwriters like John Mayer & Jason Mraz), I do like that the name “Five Times August” is derived from his birthday which happens to be the same as mine (August 5th). 😉
Swag – The extra items included downloads, a The Music Box keychain, stickers, and more.
While I’m way too picky about music for a subscription like this, I do think The Music Box is a great way to be introduced to new artists at a reasonable cost. I’m still amazed that I was sent something I’m actually into! Yay!:)
