April Birchbox time! The boxes this month were designed by Rifle Paper Co. and were so pretty! — Perfect for spring.
If you’re new to Birchbox, it’s basically a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-5 grooming, beauty, and lifestyle samples for just $10/month. When you sign up you take a style quiz and they send you products that best fit your profile. Both well-known and up-and-coming brands are included, all in generously sized multi-use samples.
Their rewards program is easily one of the best around. You earn points for reviewing your samples, referring friends, and purchasing full sized products. Each review is worth 10 points and referrals are 50 points. Every 100 points gives you $10 to spend in their shop. The points rack up fast and there’s no limit to how many you can earn. The shop is full of great products including candles, cosmetics, home accessories, tea, chocolate, and lots more goodies. Since each box contains at least 5 samples, you’ll already be racking up 50 points after you review them. So it’s sort of like paying $5 per box instead of $10, since you get that $5 in store credit. Nice!
Let the April Birchbox Unboxing Begin!
As always, the info card listed each item inside the box, as well as tips for using them and retail prices for the full-sized versions. The front of the card noted the exclusively designed Rifle Paper Co. illustration featured on the box.
Supergoop! Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Cream (~$6) – This is teeny sample, but the full size doesn’t look all that much bigger. You only need a little bit to dab under your eyes, so it should last a while despite its dinky-ness. It claims to reduce dark circles, block UV rays, and reduce the look of fine lines & puffiness.
Fekkai Pre-Soleil Hair Mist (~$7) – The info card says to think of this mist as sunscreen for your hair. You just spray some on before heading out into the sun to protect your locks from UV rays, as well as add shine and combat the frizzies.
POP Beauty Portfolio Eyeshadow Palette in Peach Parfait Trio (~$4?) – I picked this as my April sample choice. I wear shadow daily, so I knew I’d get some use out of it. It has 3 pretty shades that are perfect for everyday use. I’m glad it came with its own applicator too… I have a zillion shadows and hardly any brushes/sponges/etc.
Temple Spa Peace Be Still Calming Face & Body Balm (~$4) – I’m always happy to get hand & body lotions/balms/creams, since I use them on the regular. This one has a nice, soothing scent (lemongrass maybe?) and will be great to apply right before bed.
Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme Cologne Absolue (~$1) – I’m horrible at describing scents — especially when it comes to actual perfumes/colognes, so I’ll just borrow a line from their website: “Turkish Rose Absolute sparkles and intrigues beneath notes of spicy Ginger, enwrapped in sultry veil of Velvet Oud, Indonesian Patchouli, mystic Papyrus and Somalian Incense.”So… there ya go. It smells like that. 😉
I’m kinda unsure how I feel about my April Birchbox. The box itself was pretty and I like the eyeshadow & hand lotion. The other items are just kinda meh. The total value was roughly $22, which isn’t bad, but not as high as past boxes have been. Still, for $10/month it’s hard to be too bummed. Plus, their points system totally makes up for any disappointing boxes you get!
If you’d like to sign up for Birchbox, new customers can get 100 points when you sign up with this link and use coupon code “bbstore100“– 100 points is equal to $10.00 to spend in their shop (if that code doesn’t work, try “JILLIAN“). Since the box itself is $10/month, it’s like getting your first one for FREE!
