May Birchbox time! The boxes this month were curated by blogger Emily Schuman from Cupcakes and Cashmere.
If you’re new to Birchbox, it’s basically a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-5 grooming, beauty, and lifestyle samples for just $10/month. When you sign up you take a style quiz and they send you products that best fit your profile. Both well-known and up-and-coming brands are included, all in generously sized multi-use samples.
Their rewards program is easily one of the best around. You earn points for reviewing your samples, referring friends, and purchasing full sized products. Each review is worth 10 points and referrals are 50 points. Every 100 points gives you $10 to spend in their shop. The points rack up fast and there’s no limit to how many you can earn. The shop is full of great products including candles, cosmetics, home accessories, tea, chocolate, and lots more goodies. Since each box contains at least 5 samples, you’ll already be racking up 50 points after you review them. So it’s sort of like paying $5 per box instead of $10, since you get that $5 in store credit. Nice!
Let the May Birchbox Unboxing Begin!
The box itself reminded me of a creamsicle. 😉
As always, the info card listed each item inside the box, as well as tips for using them and retail prices for the full-sized versions. The front of the card featured a note from Emily about her love for simple beauty products and a mention of her new book.
Naobay Oxygenating Cream Moisturizer – This was my chosen sample pick for May. It’s a 98% natural cream made with avocado and olive oils. It’s to be applied to your face and neck morning and night for deep hydration. For some reason I thought it was a hand cream when I chose it, so I’m kinda bummed that it’s for your face. Ah well. I might just use it on my hands anyway. 😉
Harvey Prince “Sincerely” Eau de Parfum – I’m not a huge fan of perfumes, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about Harvey Prince so I was curious to see what all the hype was about. I spritzed a bit of this on my wrist yesterday before going out and I actually liked the scent. The info card describes it as “Indonesian clove bud, Indian tuberose, and Japanese orange flower”. I’ll definitely be wearing this again.
Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect – I have a gazillion conditioning sprays like this thanks to subscription boxes… This one is sulfate-free and offers color protection while it strengthens and nourishes your hair.
Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream – A certified organic “12 in 1” CC cream that moisturizes, protects, conceals, and evens skin tone. It also has the added protection of SPF 30. I’m happy that they included “Natural Glow”, as that’s the lightest shade available and my skin is the palest of the pale.
Coastal Scents Revealed 3 Eyeshadow Quad in “Desert Bloom” – Eyeshadow is one of the few makeup products that I use on a daily basis, so I was happy to see this included in my box. The shades in this palette are really pretty and great for daily wear.
Like last month, I’m kinda indifferent about my May Birchbox. Nothing really thrilled me, but I wasn’t exactly disappointed either. I didn’t do a cost breakdown this month because… I’m lazy busy? However, I’d say it’s definitely worth more than the $10/month cost of the subscription. Plus, their points system totally makes up for any disappointing boxes you get!
If you’d like to sign up for Birchbox, new customers can get 100 points when you sign up with this link and use coupon code “bbstore100“– 100 points is equal to $10.00 to spend in their shop (if that code doesn’t work, try “JILLIAN“). Since the box itself is $10/month, it’s like getting your first one for FREE!
Also, for a limited time only (through May 15), you can get a FREE Beauty Blender Sponge and Cleanser ($26 value!) when you use coupon code “BLEND” at checkout!
Disclosure: I purchased this box on my own. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate/referral links.

Do you know if we can use both codes at the same time? So can I get 100 points and the Beauty Blender??
Wendy Rose
I’m not sure, but I’m guessing you can only use one code at a time. Worth a try though! Let me know if it works. 🙂

We got the same box! It was my first ever birchbox, so I am not complaining. Love the eyeshadow. 🙂

Yay! 🙂
