Our January 2016 My Pretend Place Dress Up Box has arrived! (Super early, but I’m not complaining!)
If you’re not aware, the My Pretend Place Dress Up Box is a quarterly dress-up and “make believe” subscription for both boys and girls. It consists of a selection of items designed to encourage imagination and pretend play geared towards kids aged 3 through 6.
Each My Pretend Place Dress Up Box will feature a different theme and include things such as costumes, books, crafts, activities, and even food items. You have the option to choose from a girl, boy, or gender neutral box — all of which will include a costume and other fun goodies fitting the theme. UPDATE: You now have the choice to “build your own box” and pick the specific theme you’d like, rather than having My Pretend Place choose. Very cool!
Subscriptions are $50 (shipping included) and sent are on a quarterly basis. During the “in-between” months, you’ll receive 2 additional packages with supplemental ideas, activities, and crafts to stretch the fun into the whole year. — You can save 30% on your first month with coupon code “PRETEND“!
Okay, let’s see what’s inside the January 2016 My Pretend Place Dress Up Box!
As always, everything shipped in a large package that doesn’t quite fit in my light box. 😉
A quick peek inside.
The box included a letter to your child from “Chef Ede Uveg” (ha!), who explains the different types of chefs and what their jobs entail. Clearly, I chose the “Chef” theme for this quarter (which I was bummed that we didn’t get last time). Yay! I’m loving this new “build your own box” thing! 🙂
Melissa & Doug Chef Role Play Costume Set ($25.49) – Ahh! So cute! This sweet little chef set comes with a jacket, hat, oven mitt, wooden utensils, plastic measuring spoons, and a customizable name tag. My mom bought the girls a new KidKraft kitchen for Christmas, so this will be perfect to go along with it! I can’t wait to see them rockin’ the little white chef’s hat. 🙂
Melissa & Doug Felt Pizza Set ($17.94) – I love Melissa & Doug’s food sets! So much so, that when I saw this included in last quarter’s box, I just had to buy it for my kiddos. (Okay, and for me too… I would have had SO much fun with this as a kid!) The set includes a pizza pan, pizza dough, sauce, cheese, and a ton of toppings. It even comes with its own cardboard pizza delivery box. It’s so neat, that I totally don’t even mind that we’ll have 2 now. (Plus both girls will have their own to open on Christmas. Score!)
The Donut Chef by Bob Staake ($7.99) – Another winner! My girls are OBSESSED with donuts these days. — We got them to smile for their Christmas photos this year by having them yell “DONUT!”. 😉 This book features dueling chefs who try to outdo one another with wacky new donut flavors. I love the whimsical illustrations and fun rhyming verse. Oh, and spoiler alert: Turns out no one cares about wacky flavors — they simply want glazed.
Melissa & Doug Make-a-Meal Sticker Pad ($4.99) – Kids can use the included food stickers and place settings to create 15 yummy meals of their choice. The package contains over 225 stickers in a variety of food groups — cookies, tacos, pancakes, pizza, broccoli — and so much more. Fun!
Some chef-themed foam stickers, a My Pretend Place magnet, and a plastic handle were included to decorate the shipping box for use as a storage/dress-up trunk.
I think it’s safe to say that this is my favorite My Pretend Place Dress Up Box to date! I’m SO happy they started offering the “build your own box” option. It’s great for those who already have a particular role play set and don’t want another — as well as being able to avoid themes that your kids just aren’t into (like our last “Cowgirl” box. 😉 ). The total value of the Chef box (using Amazon prices) was over $56. A little over the quarterly cost, but don’t forget that you also receive additional shipments of supplemental materials for month 2 and 3 for FREE. So the value is definitely there when you consider everything you receive over the 3 months.
If you’d like to sign up for the My Pretend Place Dress Up box, they’re offering new customers 30% off their first box! Just use coupon code “PRETEND” at checkout.
