The June Pretend Play Projects box from My Pretend Place was a total hit with my girls. Music and painting? Heck yes!
My Pretend Place Pretend Play Projects box is geared towards children 3 to 8 years old. It contains all of the materials needed to complete a new pretend play item each month. They actually include enough materials to make 2 of each project — perfect for siblings or friends to join in the fun.
Subscriptions are just $15/month and shipping is free. While the My Pretend Place Dress-Up subscription ships quarterly, the Pretend Play Projects box is sent every month.
Let’s see what’s in the June My Pretend Place Pretend Play Projects box!
The materials were all shipped in a small box wrapped with brown kraft paper.
The box included a letter from “Adagio Toccata”, a member of a band in need of a new percussionist. He explains that he sent along a couple instruments for your child to decorate and practice playing.
Materials were included for your child to make two instruments: Maracas and a rhythm board.
Maracas – The first project involved painting and decorating a pair of wooden maracas. Included were 2 maracas, 2 pots of tempera paint, 2 paint brushes, and 2 markers. I was a little nervous about letting my girls use actual paint since they’re still under 3, but they actually did a pretty good job.
Painting is serious business.
The finished maracas. As you can see, the girls weren’t too happy about giving them up for a quick photo. This was the best I could do.
Rhythm Board – This project included a wooden rhythm board, a playing stick, foam stickers, as well as the paints and markers from the first activity.
Once again, they took the painting very seriously.
Looking at these photos now, I can’t believe I trusted them enough not to have them protect their dresses… Thankfully, they did surprisingly well keeping all of the paint on the brushes/instruments. You go, girls!
The finished rhythm board and stick. I tried to get them to put some of the stickers on it, but they weren’t havin’ it.
Also included were stickers and a plastic handle to turn the shipping box into a suitcase or dress-up chest for continued pretend play. My girls loved the felt star stickers and just might have pretended to play the tiny guitar. 😉
June’s Pretend Play Projects box was clearly a hit with my kiddos. The projects were easy enough for an almost-3-year-old to do, but appropriate for a wide range of ages. I love that it taught me what serious little painters my girls are! Definitely a great box for little ones.
