Nerd Block Jr. is a new-ish box that’s curated with goodies for kids from ages 6 to 11 (though it could be enjoyed by anyone, really). It’s a monthly surprise package filled with toys and games that some would consider “nerdy” or geeky. It’s basically a kid-version of the original Nerd Block (which is geared towards adult “nerds”).
Nerd Block Jr. is $13.99/month (plus shipping) and offers boxes specifically for boys or girls. Boxes include toys, games, and collectibles from brands such as Disney, Nintendo, Hello Kitty, Star Wars, My Little Pony, and more.
I was recently sent the “Girl” box for review. It ships from Canada, but it arrived fairly quickly. Good job, Canada Post! Okay, let’s see what’s inside!
The contents! There was no info card, however the items were all listed on the customs form taped to the outside of the box. Prices were listed there as well.
“Clumsy” Smurf Plush – My husband’s reaction when I showed this to him was “How are Smurfs nerdy?”. I’d have to agree. Unless, as he pointed out, this was Brainy Smurf (which it isn’t). On a related note — do they all really look that different? I mean, if I haven’t seen the name on his tag, I would have no idea which Smurf he was (unless he had glasses or long hair). That said, this is a super soft plush that any Smurf fan (nerdy or not) would be happy to play with. (Amazon Price: $5.85)
Disney Minnie Mouse Sticker – I’m not a Disney fan, but I know I’m in the minority. I’m sure any Disney lover, sticker collector, or girl of pretty much any age would adore this. (Retail Price: $1.00)
My Little Pony Class of Cutie Marks Set – I used to love My Little Pony when I was a kid, but I’m not too familiar with the new generation of ponies. Though I did recently watch a documentary about “Bronies”, or boys who’re into My Little Pony. Yep, it’s a thing. I guess the new generation ponies are more anime-ish and appeal to dudes for whatever reason. These are definitely cute and I’ll be saving them for the girls to play with when they’re older. (Amazon Price: $7.95)
Baby Filly Princess Mystery Bag – I’m guessing this is a My Little Pony rip-off? I had never heard of it, but being a sucker for mystery anything‘s, I had to open it to see what was inside…
…and there it is! A teeny, tiny flocked pony. “Countess Melody”, to be exact. According to the little brochure inside, there’s a bazillion of these things to collect, all with slight color variations/crowns/etc. I don’t even wanna know the retail price of these tiny things. (Retail guess-timate: $1.00)
Playmobil Fi?ures Figure – Another mystery pack! This one’s for something I’ve actually heard of though — Playmobil figures. It looks like this is from “Series 3” and includes various female characters that have interchangeable parts. I *could* have put this away for the girls to open in a few years, but… I totally opened it myself. Cannot. Resist. Mysteries.
Here’s the character that was inside. As cute as she looks, she was a bitch to put together. Seriously. There were like 10 pieces and it took looking at the instructional diagram and unassembling it more than once to get it right. Good luck with this one, kids! 😉 (Amazon Price: $6.05)
All totaled, the items in my Nerd Block Jr. box come to $21.85. I was actually surprised at how much collectibles like these cost. I had no idea! That said, I’m sure any kid would love to receive a box like this every month. Hell, even I would!
