Plowbox from Seattle Seed Co. is a new subscription box that sends you a collection of organic seeds, gardening tips, and more on a quarterly basis.
Each box will contain 10 packs of seasonally appropriate seeds chosen for the current season and your specific climate. All seeds are certified organic and non-GMO. You’ll also receive planting tips and expert advice from experienced gardeners, as well as one or more “extra” gardening-related gifts.
Subscriptions are $45/season (quarterly), or less with an annual plan. For a limited time, you can save 20% on your first box with coupon code “TRYPLOWBOX“.
Let’s see what’s in the Winter 2015 Plowbox!
The box!
A peek inside.
An info card pasted to the inside lid listed some of the items featured in the Winter 2015 box, which focused on indoor gardening and preparing for spring.
The Seeds – All of the seeds included are from Seattle Seed Co. (the company behind the box), a family owned & operated businesses dedicated to producing quality products at affordable prices. All of the seeds are 100% organic and guaranteed to be free of GMOs. Included were peas, thyme, onion, basil, beets, lettuce, leek, and celery.
A full-color guide to each seed included photos, difficulty level, and tips. Full planting instructions were also printed on each seed packet.
Microgreens – Two packets of microgreens were included: Broccoli and kale. Microgreens are tiny edible plants that are harvested while they’re still juvenile plants. They can be harvested at about 10 days, which is usually 7 or 8 days past the sprout stage. You can grow them in a small tray/planter right in your kitchen and use the harvested plants for salads, soups, garnishes, and more.
There was a separate info sheet with additional tips for growing the microgreens.
Re-Gifting Card – In the event that you receive a particular seed that you have no interest in growing, Plowbox has provided a handmade letterpress “re-gifting card” for you to pass the seeds along to someone else to use. Nice idea!
Good Nature Notebook – A little nature-themed pocket notebook to hold all of your garden-related notes and sketches. It measures 3.5″ x 5.5″ and was printed and designed right in Seattle.
Lavender Sachet – To remind you of the scents of summer, a Washington-grown lavender sachet was included to tuck into a drawer, closet, or your car’s center console.
Plowbox is a great subscription for anyone who loves gardening, or who’d like to give it a try. It’s great that they include only 100% organic, non-GMO seeds. I also like the addition of fun garden-related “extras”.
Remember — If you’d like to sign up for Plowbox for yourself or as a gift for your gardening friends, you can save 20% on your first box with coupon code “TRYPLOWBOX“. 🙂
