My Pretend Place is a fun new dress-up and “make believe” subscription for both boys and girls. It consists of a selection of items designed to encourage imagination and pretend play geared towards kids aged 3 through 6.
Each My Pretend Place box will feature a different theme and include things such as costumes, books, crafts, activities, and even food items. You have the option to choose from a girl, boy, or gender neutral box — all of which will include a costume and other fun goodies fitting the theme.
Subscriptions are $50 (shipping included) and sent are on a quarterly basis. During the “in-between” months, you’ll receive emails packed with supplemental ideas, activities, crafts and more to stretch the fun into the whole year.
I was recently sent a girl’s box for review.
Let’s see what’s inside!
Everything was packed into a BIG white box with a My Pretend Place logo in the corner.
First look. What’s in there??
Aha! A note from a princess… Princess Prudence. She hopes that I (er, my kiddos) enjoy the box of “royal goodies” that she’s sent me (them).
Melissa & Doug Princess Role Play Set ($23.99) – First up, the costume! A pretty, 3-piece princess role play set from Melissa & Doug. It includes a pink & white gown adorned with sparkly ribbons, a shiny tiara, and a bejeweled crown. Adorable! I tried to get my girls to try it on, but they weren’t havin’ it. I think they’re still not over the trauma of getting them to wear their Halloween costumes. 😉 I’m sure they’ll warm up to it eventually.
Melissa & Doug Wooden Princess Stamp Set ($9.99) – I’ve received a similar stamp set (different theme) from Citrus Lane not too long ago, so I’m happy to get another one. (It’s always good to have things in twos when you’ve got twins!) This set contains 9 stamps, a 2-color stamp pad, and 5 colored pencils. I like that everything can be stored neatly in the wooden box it comes in. Smart!
Melissa & Doug Decorate-Your-Own Wooden Princess Mirror ($6.65) – Good thing we like Melissa & Doug products! This DIY princess mirror kit includes a pre-painted wooden mirror, glitter glue, sparkly gems, and decorative stickers. I like that the mirror itself is already painted and only needs decorating — a lot less messy! Seems like a fun rainy day activity.
“Don’t Kiss the Frog” Princess Stories with Attitude Book ($7.97) – A collection of “alternative” fairy tales that show the sassier sides of princesses. It has a mix of whimsical illustrations and equally whimsical, ever-changing fonts throughout each tale.
A My Pretend Place magnet was also included, along with foam stickers to decorate the shipping box for use as a storage trunk.
Overall, I’d say this was a fun, engaging box for little ones. The costume was great and the activities that went along with the theme were perfect for encouraging creativity. I found it a little odd that all but one of the items were from Melissa & Doug, but thankfully it’s a great brand so I’m not too bothered by it. The total value (using Amazon prices) of everything in the box was roughly $48.60, which is a little under the cost of the subscription. However, when you factor in shipping, it’s probably a good deal. Plus, you get additional ideas/activities emailed to you each month to go along with the box.
If you’d like to sign up for My Pretend Place, you can save 30% on your first box just by using coupon code “pretend” at checkout! But hurry — offer is only good through 2/28/15.
