Let’s see what’s in the July 2019 Young Adult Unplugged Book Box!
Everything was shipped in a black box with the Unplugged Book Box logo on top.
A peek inside!
An info card listed all of the item’s in July’s Stars are Only Visible in Darkness “Summer Solstice” box, along with brief descriptions and dates/instructions for their monthly Instagram photo contest.
The Chosen by Taran Matharu
June’s featured book was hand-wrapped in light blue tissue paper and tied with a gray/black ribbon. Tucked inside was a signed bookplate, as well as a letter from the author.
From Amazon:
The Chosen introduces the epic fantasy, the Contender trilogy, from Taran Matharu, author of the New York Times–bestselling Summoner series.
Throughout history, people have vanished with no explanation. A group of teenagers are about to discover why.
Cade is settling into a new boarding school, contemplating his future, when he finds himself transported to another realm. He soon discovers their new world is populated with lost remnants from the past: prehistoric creatures, ancient relics, and stranger still―people. Overwhelmed by his new surroundings, Cade has little time to adjust, for soon he and his fellow classmates are forced to become contenders in a brutal game, controlled by mysterious overlords.
But who are these beings and why did they choose these teens? Cade must prepare for battle . . . because hiding is not an option. Fans of fantasy and LitRPG will welcome this new character and world from the author of the Summoner series.
Flickerwix Rhysand Candle
If you read here regularly, you know I’m NOT a fan of glitter. However, I’m totally fine if said glitter is safely suspended inside a candle. (Burn, glitter, BURN! 😉 ) According to the info card, this was created for Unplugged Book Box in homage to Rhysand (the High Lord of the Night Court) of A Court of Thorns & Roses by Sarah J. Maas. Apparently, he “faced some pretty dark times before seeing the stars of his life”. I didn’t see a specific scent listed — nor can I really describe it — but I’m a fan.
Ms. Peregrine’s Cooler
Inspired by Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, this exclusive cooler bag is the perfect size for carrying your lunch to work, school, or the beach. It has a black, white, and gray color scheme with the quote “Sometimes it’s better not to look back” printed on the front. The inside is fully insulated to keep your things chilled, and there’s a mesh pocket on the side to hold utensils, napkins, etc.
Badgerface Beauty Supply Tracker Jacker Repellent Lotion Bar
I haaaate mosquitos, so anything that repels them is a winner in my book. This Hunger Games inspired lotion bar is made with all natural ingredients including shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, and essential oils of citronella, lavender, eucalyptus, and cedar. Peace out, skeeters!
Winter is Over Sunscreen
An Unplugged Book Box exclusive, this Game of Thrones themed “Coconut Breeze” scented sunscreen is small enough to keep in your bag so you’ll never be without protection from the sun. It has an SPF of 30 and should be “applied generously to prevent dragon burns”.
Enamel Pin
Another Unplugged exclusive, this pin is number two of their Summer Solstice collectible series inspired by Sarah’s favorite fandoms. It features an image of Bucky Barnes’ (the Winter Soldier) bionic arm with the phrase “Till the end of the line” — a quote from Steve Rogers to Bucky in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Also included were a “Stars are Only Visible in Darkness” Spotify playlist with a “Gratitude Journal” page on the flip-side.
Another fun collection of literary-inspired goodies from Unplugged Book Box! I enjoyed the summer vibes of the items this month, with my favorites being the Flickerwix candle & Badgerface Beauty mosquito repellent lotion bar. 😀 — Remember, if you’re interested in subscribing you can save 10% on your first month with coupon code “GETUNPLUGGED“!
