This is actually my second Birchbox review for August, since I also picked up the guest curated “Candidly Nicole” box (reviewed here).

When you sign up you take a style quiz and they send you products that best fit your profile. Both well-known and up-and-coming brands are included, all in generously sized multi-use samples. August Ivy Kids time! I usually post my review earlier in the month, but it took us longer than usual to complete all the activities. (I’m totally not complaining! That’s a good thing.)
If you’re not aware, Ivy Kids is a monthly activity box for children aged 3 through 8. It was founded by a certified early childhood educator, turned stay-at-home mom who had begun creating her own activities in order to entertain and educate her kiddos. [read more…]

Treat Chest is a new subscription box that sends a variety of sweet treats to your door every month.
Each box will contain a selection of five or more treats ranging from gummies, to licorice, to taffy, and everything in between. Treat Chest promises a retail value of at least $54 in every box.
Subscriptions are $26.99 (plus shipping) per month, or less with multi-month commitments.
The box was designed to look like a wooden chest and felt pretty heavy.
A peek inside. There wasn’t an information card, so I’ll just jump right into the treats.
Jelly Belly Jelly Beans ($5.50) – The classic gourmet jelly beans with the wackiest of flavors. I remember always being so grossed out by the “buttered popcorn” ones as a kid. As an adult, I’m equally as grossed out. 😉 The rest are pretty good though, if I remember correctly. (Well, minus the black ones. I’m just not down with licorice. Ick.)
Rock Candy (8 pieces) (~$8) – Eight pieces of individually wrapped rock candy were included. I’ve always thought these were pretty to look at, but kinda meh to eat. Straight-up sugar crystals just seems… wrong. That said, they’re certainly a classic confection.
Kookaburra Liquorice Strawberry & Cream Bites ($2.59) – Chewy licorice (liquorice?) bites flavored with strawberries & cream. My mom’s a big licorice fan, so I’ll be passing these along to her.
Smarties Candy Roll (~$0.50) – This roll is much larger than the typical Smarties rolls that you’d get 32,978 of when trick-or-treating. I remember using these as “pills” for my dolls/stuffed animals when I was a kid. That’s… normal, right?
Albanese Gummi Bears ($2.19) – Fat free, gluten-free gummy bears in 12 different flavors. The flavors include: Wild Cherry, Strawberry, Pink Grapefruit, Orange, Mango, Lemon, Green Apple, Lime, Blue Raspberry, Watermelon, Grape & Pineapple.
Taffy Town Taffy (~$2?) – 15 pieces of Taffy Town taffy were included. I’m not sure what the flavor is, since there wasn’t an info card and I couldn’t find these on their site.
I gotta say, I’m pretty bummed by August’s Treat Chest. For the cost of the subscription (and the promise of a $54 value), I expected a lot more. The total of all the treats comes to roughly $20 — a LOT less than the promised $54. Not cool. Unless this was some kind of slip-up/miscalculation on their part, I really can’t see any reason to sign up for this subscription.

Ecocentric Mom time again!
If you’re unaware, Ecocentric Mom is a unique subscription box that features mom & baby products that are eco-friendly, natural, organic, and often vegan-friendly. There are 3 different box options to choose from. I (still) subscribe to the “Mom & Baby” box, but they also offer a “Mom-to-Be Box” and just a plain ol’ “Mom” box. They also recently announced a new “Ecocentric Box” for women in general (moms and non-moms alike!).
