My dear husband is 33 today. (He finally caught up with me!) When we met face to face for the first time on a super awkward coffee date at Barnes N’ Noble, I would never have guessed that we’d be married — & expecting twins— a mere 4 years later. It’s been a bumpy road at times, and we’ve certainly mastered the art of “bickering like an old married couple”, but I can’t imagine being with anyone else. Sorry Michael, but unless you have other plans, I’m afraid we have many, many more years of driving each other crazy ahead of […]
Oh, snap! People like me! I’ve been given two nifty little blog awards by luminousvegans. And here they be: I guess there are a bunch of rules & junk that I have to abide by in order to accept these, but ya know, rules are for chumps. haha. However, I suppose I should do something to justify posting these, right? Right. Part of the requirement for the “One Lovely Blog Award” is to list 7 facts about yourself & then nominate 15 other blogs for the award. Well, being that I don’t even follow 15 other blogs at the […]
No wonder I feel so big — I went to the Dr’s yesterday and found out that I’m measuring 28 weeks (I’m only 22!). Is that normal? Yikes. I’ll post some better photos in a few days… But for now, here’s a close-up of my over-achieving belly: I’m kind of dreading the time when my bellybutton will transform from an innie to an outie. Is it pretty much a guarantee that it will happen?? Things are moving so fast… Tonight we’re going to buy some paint so we can start getting the nursery ready. We ordered new replacement windows a […]
Yesterday my little uterus residents hit the 22-week mark. They grow up so fast! 😉 I’ve never done an official “bumpdate” post, so I figure I should give it a go. — Even though I don’t have a current photo of my big ol’ belly (it’s big, trust me!). Mike takes daily photos of my monstrosity, so I’ll try to post one in a few days. But for now, simple black text must suffice… How far along? 22 weeks and one day. Time is really starting to fly by! Weight gain/loss: Ugh. This topic makes me nervous. My pre-pregnancy weight was 136. […]
Last weekend I went for Thai food with an old friend whom I hadn’t seen in ten years. We sat in the quiet restaurant for about two hours, laughing and reminiscing about all of the stupid things we did together when we were younger. At some point we must have gotten a little, um… loud, as the waitress seemed to keep her distance and the other tables cleared out pretty soon after we arrived. Haha! Just like old times… Mai-Ling and I met way back in 5th grade, in Mr. Flory’s class at City Honors School (we were big smartypants-es!). Our […]
Uhhhh… I just found out that “2 Little Rosebuds” is a Gospel Bluegrass song by some guy named Red Ellis. I’m a little weirded out… 2 Little Rosebuds
Yesterday we hit a record-breaking high of 82-degrees here in the Buffalo area — and though I didn’t spend any time outside, I tried to enjoy it the best I could. I opened up some windows & doors and let the breeze meander its way throughout the house. The sunlight trickled in, casting shadows everywhere. The whole house took on a very peaceful, surreal vibe. It was perfect. Most of the afternoon was spent sorting through a 3-foot stack of old Vegetarian Times magazines — clipping recipes and piling them back up for recycling. As of today, I’m 19 weeks […]
Here’s a quick video of Mike showing off his parenting skills. This was taken at a Target store in July. (Clearly, we’re very mature…) Little did we know that we’d be expecting two of these little guys (er, girls) a year later. (Off switch not included!)
I’ve never been a follower of any particular religion. I was baptized as a baby, but that’s as far as I got. With that said, Easter has never been much of a big deal for me. Sure, when I was a wee lil’ whippersnapper, I took much delight in hunting for my basket full of pastel-wrapped goodies & rainbow-colored jelly beans… What kid didn’t? But once I learned that the whole “Easter bunny” thing was a big sham, the holiday just kind of lost its appeal. It went downhill even more once I hit my teenage years & went vegetarian. […]
17 weeks! I can’t believe how fast these past couple of months have flown by. I’m almost halfway there! My original plan was to document each week of my pregnancy through photographs. It would have been a dandy little plan, had I not have been so damn lazy. And nauseous. (And full of excuses?) With that said, I guess 17 weeks in is better than nothing. Hell, with twins, I’m pretty much guaranteed to balloon to epic proportions anyway — so I have plenty of growth left to document. Lucky me. So hopefully I’ll remember to snap a few photos […]
Mike and I don’t take many trips. In the time that we’ve been together (since 2008), we’ve only gone to a handful of places, all of which were a couple hours away. He’s not a fan of long car trips. (Or, you know, leaving the house.) Fortunately for me, Farm Sanctuary‘s New York shelter is only about a two-hour drive from Buffalo. A quite scenic, lovely drive!
Today I am 16 weeks pregnant. My babies are the size of avocados! AVOCADOS!! Now, being a vegan, you’d think I’d be a big avocado fan… Natural, healthy, plant-based “good” fat – a perfect vegan staple, right? Right? Um… Okay, confession time: I, Wendy Rose, long-time vegan & even longer-time vegetarian, have never tasted an avocado. Ever. There. I said it. I have no excuses… no legit reasons for my avocado ignorance. Sure, I’ve had opportunities to try it. Whenever I go to Moe’s, they ask me if I’d like guacamole on my burrito. Each time I respond with a […]
Ever since I made the switch from vegetarian to vegan, I’ve come to embrace the yummy-ness that is ethnic food. At the top of my list would be Thai (tofu curry! veggie tempura!) and Middle Eastern (FALAFEL!). Sadly, my husband doesn’t quite accept the notion that non-American cuisine is anything but, well, weird. He’s definitely the ever-cliched “meat & potatoes” type of guy. I’ve tried to sway him in the other direction, and he has made some progress in the time that we’ve been together (he actually enjoys seitan wings now!), but he’s still a work in progress. Luckily for […]
With warmer weather comes less clothing. Less clothing results in more bared skin. And for me, bared skin means the urge to cover it up… with colorful tattoos. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been super pale. I mean PALE. Ghost-like. I’d like to blame it on my Welsh heritage, but really, I’m just not a big fan of the sun. I can’t remember a time when I’ve actually had an actual tan. It’s either brutal, lobster-like sunburns, or nothing. Thanks, sun.
