I was pleasantly surprised to see the August Taste Trunk on my doorstep today. They don’t send tracking numbers, so it just kinda shows up when it wants. Which is sorta nice, since I don’t have to obsessively refresh any tracking pages. 😉
As with last month, I ordered the “Health Trunk”. There are 4 different themed boxes (“trunks”) to choose from: “Sweet Trunk”, “Gourmet Trunk”, and “BBQ Trunk”. Can’t decide which one you want? They have an option on their website to switch trunks whenever you want. You can change it every month if that’s the way you roll. Personally, I always stick with the Health one, since I assume I’ll have a better chance at getting vegan items in the box. (So far, so good.) [read more…]

The girls had their twelve month checkup this week. Everything was great, except that the doctor wants them to go to a feeding clinic. They still don’t quite enjoy the whole “solids” thing, nor do they want any part of holding their own bottles. And sippy cups? Pfft. So yeah, I guess they need some… intervention. Anyone have any experience with this sorta thing? Or are my kiddos just little divas who think they’re too posh to chew?

I was recently contacted by Earnest Eats after they found a review I did of one of their baked whole food bars (so good!). They wanted to know if I’d be interested in reviewing their new Hot & Fit Cereal line. Since I was already a fan of their yum-tastic food bars, I gladly accepted the offer.

Here’s a little something different… socks!
Oh, but these aren’t your everyday “pick ’em up at Target” kinda socks. Nope. These babies are made with bamboo! Why bamboo? Read on, my sock-wearin’ friend!
Zockster, the company behind these unique socks, is all about sustainability. Using bamboo to produce socks takes less than 1/10th of the water needed to make “standard” cotton ones. Bamboo also has natural properties that really come in handy when you’re talking socks: Moisture-wicking (less sweat=less stink!), anti-bacterial (less germs!), increased circulation (good for the ‘beetus!), and more. I realize that it’s almost August and reviewing a box from June might seem silly, BUT I just received this a couple days ago. I had been in contact with LaLaaLu about reviewing a box, they agreed, and THEN they took a summer hiatus to spend time with their families. So there was no actual July box, which is why I was sent June. I kinda hoped they’d wait and send me the August box, but what can ya do.
LaLaaLu is an expertly-curated box for babies, toddlers, and “big kids”. (I tried to find an actual age range, but their new website is beyond confusing. Their old one wasn’t exactly easy to navigate, but this new one… good luck! Hopefully they’re aware of this and make it a little [a lot] more user-friendly soon.)
Unlike most boxes, with Lalaalu you don’t need to commit to a subscription — you simply purchase boxes as you want them. Every month (or two?), a new theme is released and you just choose your box based on the age of your child. LaLaaLu is based in NYC, so they lean towards hip, “city”-inspired themes. The upcoming August theme is “Urban Yogi”.

10 Storks is a new subscription box set to open up shop on August 1st. It’s a box geared towards expectant moms and features necessities (and treats!) that every momma-to-be needs (and wants!). Many of the products are organic and all are 100% safe for mom and her little womb friend. 😉

This is my first “real” month of Ecocentric Mom. I had previously ordered one of their limited “mystery boxes” and was totally impressed with what they sent. Needless to say, when they offered a discount code (now expired) that took $3.00 off the monthly cost for the entire time that I’m a subscriber (making it $18/month), I had to jump on it. Had to!

My Goodies Box came today and though it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t super awesome either. However, for $7.00 (shipping included!), I really can’t complain. I still love getting this box, even when it’s a little underwhelming.
Like last month, I had already seen the spoilers, so I knew what I was going to get. Luckily for me, all of the items this time were vegan except for one. Yeah!!

I got my Citrus Lane box a little earlier this month, so that was a nice change. No hangin’ out in Jersey this time. *fist pump* Musta been too hot at the Shore.

Vegan Cuts, the folks behind the awesome Vegan Cuts Snack Box, have just shipped out their very first “Beauty” box. It’s a skincare/makeup/body care box that features products that are cruelty-free and vegan-friendly. I wouldn’t normally be all that interested in a box like this (I’m just not into makeup-y stuff), but it was their first one, so I was curious. Plus, it was only $19.95 and promised to have $65 worth of products in it. So I took the bait.
I got the box today and was immediately bummed out by its size. It was a VERY small package. And as we all know, size does matter. At least with subscription boxes. 😉
I held out hope that it would wow me, tiny box aside, but… it didn’t. I don’t know if it’s because of my indifference towards most “beauty” products, high expectations (considering the awesomeness of the snack box), or if it really was just… lacking. I’ll let you decide… [read more…]
